Scenic Rivers Opposes Proposed Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project

Land trusts across Maryland join together to stand against the construction of 70 miles of transmission lines across conserved lands

Developer PSEG has proposed the Maryland Piedmont Reliability Project (MPRP) as a high-voltage transmission line that would run through Baltimore County, Carroll County, and Frederick County.

Scenic Rivers has signed a Forever Maryland opposition letter against the construction of the powerlines which would run through thousands of acres of conserved lands, including state parks, private properties, and agricultural properties. The construction path would traverse through multiple easements held by land trusts, as well as state and local governments. While MPRP’s proposed route does not cross any Scenic Rivers easements, we are still monitoring the situation as it poses a threat to all conserved land.

As stated in the Forever Maryland letter, allowing transmission lines to travel through conserved properties violates the requirements of the IRS, the purpose of our non-profits, and most importantly the trust that landowners have placed in land trusts to protect their land in perpetuity.
