Scenic Rivers Land Trust is thrilled to host a special Walk & Talk with renowned forester and author Ethan Tapper on Tuesday, March 11, at 5:00 PM at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville.

Tapper, the author of the recently released How to Love a Forest: The Bittersweet Work of Tending a Changing World, which challenges us to rethink our relationship with forests, will lead an intimate and thought-provoking walk through the conserved portion of Bacon Ridge Natural Area. As we explore the trails, he will share his insights into the hidden complexities of forests—their resilience, their fragility, and the surprising ways we can help them thrive.

This is a rare opportunity to learn from a leading voice in forest stewardship, right here in our own protected woods. Whether you are a lifelong conservationist, a curious nature lover, or someone looking to better understand how we can care for our forests in a changing world, this is an event you won’t want to miss.

📍 Meeting Location: Hawkins Road Trailhead, Bacon Ridge Natural Area, Crownsville
📅 Date & Time: Tuesday, March 11, 5:00 PM

Praise for How to Love a Forest

“Rarely has our personal responsibility for the natural world that supports us been so eloquently articulated. Ecological wisdom abounds in Ethan Tapper’s story of restoration: wisdom that needs to be spread far, wide, and fast. His ironic yet accurate message? To save a forest, trees need to die. Read this book and find out why.”

—Doug Tallamy, author of Nature’s Best Hope
