CANCELED: Maryland Day Weekend: Guided History Hike at Bacon Ridge Natural Area
March 21, 2020
FreePLEASE NOTE: We are canceling both the 10 am and 1 pm Maryland Day History Hikes scheduled for Saturday, March 21, 2020.
We follow the organizers of Maryland Day Weekend’s lead of canceling the entire weekend-long event. In addition, state and county recommendations for best “social distancing” practices in response to the COVID-19 outbreak continue to become more restrictive. We take these recommendations seriously and want to do what is best for the health of our community.
At present, access to Bacon Ridge Natural Area remains open as well as Anne Arundel County’s regional parks, which include Quiet Waters, Kinder Farm, Downs, Fort Smallwood, and Jug Bay Wetlands Sanctuary. County residents are encouraged to access these parks for fresh air and exercise, while continuing to follow best practices for preventing the spread of the new coronavirus.
Depending on the severity of the outbreak and the state, county, and CDC recommendations, we have plans to host a few more hikes later in the year. We will announce the dates and locations for those events via Scenic Rivers’ Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts, and via our monthly email newsletter.
Thank you for your patience and understanding!
Celebrate Maryland Day Weekend outside in your local woods! Join Scenic Rivers’ expert staff as we explore for landscape clues in the history-rich Bacon Ridge Natural Area. Together we’ll learn how humans and nature have interacted to make the landscape we see today, all while enjoying the beautiful 900+ acre protected forest.
All ages welcome, but beware it is an unpaved trail through the woods. Dogs on leashes welcome. Length: 2-4 miles. Meet at Bacon Ridge Trailhead on Hawkins Road just south of the 97 overpass in Crownsville, Maryland.
