Sarah Knebel

Promoted to Executive Director in September 2019, Sarah joined Scenic Rivers in early 2015. Sarah lead Scenic Rivers through the national accreditation process, which was awarded in August 2019 by the Land Trust Accreditation Commission. She serves as the Chair of the Forever Maryland Board of Directors. And, in 2023 she was awarded the Aileen Hughes Award for outstanding leadership in land conservation.

Previously, she worked in various sectors, focusing on sustainable agriculture, habitat restoration, nature education, and water quality monitoring. Sarah has a BS in Environmental Science and Policy with a concentration in Environmental Restoration and Management from the University of Maryland, College Park. In her spare time, she explores nearby forests, rivers, and mountains by hiking, cycling, sailing, and climbing.
