Hit the Trails for Maryland Day Weekend
The 16th annual Maryland Day Weekend is coming up on Friday, March 31 through Sunday, April 2. Throughout the weekend, which commemorates Maryland’s founding, dozens of local heritage sites offer activities and events for free or only $1.
Scenic Rivers is offering two ways to head outside, enjoy nature, and learn a bit of history:
- Nature Scavenger Hunt. This activity is available all weekend long at a time and pace that suits your schedule. Simply download our Nature Scavenger Hunt flyer, head to any trailhead at Bacon Ridge Natural Area in Crownsville, and set out for a hike. Snap photos of the scavenger hunt items along the way and share them via social media. We can’t wait to see what you find!
- Guided History Hike at SERC. Scenic Rivers staff will lead a guided hike of the conserved Contee Farm portion of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center campus. Learn the history of the land and take in spectacular views. Hike is approximately 2-3 miles on gravel trails and through fields. All ages welcome. Pets are not permitted on the SERC campus. This event is free, but registration is required and space is limited.
We hope to see you on the trails this Maryland Day Weekend!
